What is Key Stage 3 in the British system?

🟠 What is Key Stage 3?

Key Stage 3 (KS3) corresponds to Year 7 to Year 9 of the British system, that is, from 11 to 14 years of age. This is the first three years of compulsory secondary education in the United Kingdom.

At this stage, students leave behind the more familiar structure of primary school and begin to work with subject specialist teachers, which allows them to delve deeper into specific areas of knowledge.

🟢 2. What subjects are studied in Key Stage 3?

The KS3 curriculum is comprehensive and balanced. It includes:

  • English

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Geography and History

  • Physical Education

  • Art

  • Music

  • Technology

  • Computing

  • French or Spanish

  • Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

This diversity of subjects helps students discover their interests, develop new skills and prepare them to make decisions for future educational stages.

🟣 3. How do we accompany students at this stage?

At Numont School, we believe that Key Stage 3 is much more than an academic stage. It is a key stage of personal, emotional and social growth.

Therefore:

  • We keep classes small so that teachers can get to know each student thoroughly.

  • We encourage autonomy, responsibility and active participation.

  • We offer tutoring and close support to both students and their families.

  • We care for their emotional well-being with a very human approach, adapted to the challenges of adolescence.

🔵 4. We foster key skills for your future

During this stage, we work not only on content, but also on skills that will be essential in whatever path they choose:

  • Oral and written expression

  • Critical thinking

  • Teamwork

  • Personal organization and time management

  • Respect for diversity of opinions

These competencies are developed in a cross-cutting manner, in all subjects and day-to-day activities.
